Life Story:
Nathan was born in Manila while his parents were touring and went on to spend most of his childhood touring. He didn't like the life on the road, he didn't like moving around all the time and even with his siblings, he always felt lonely. It wasn't just the touring though, his parents were always fighting, he regularly saw his father with other women and in general his family seemed to be filled with nutcases and tragedies. Nate grew up shy and anxious, uncomfortable with any social situation. When his father died and her mother fell into depression, no longer paying attention to her kids, Nate's anxiety got worse. The boy started having regular nightmares and panic attacks which often made it impossible for him to breathe.
It took some time for his mother to notice how bad he was and unable to deal with it herself, Zara took Nate to a therapist. He was diagnosed with a severe anxiety disorder that the therapist believed was a cause of the ethic life he had had so far. For a while, he went through therapy, where they didn't just try to make him better, they also taught him how to better control his anxiety and panic attacks, but none of it was producing a lot of results.
One day, his therapist asked his mother to come in with Nate. He never forgot his mother's face after the doctor's words:
"Nate's condition is getting worse and I believe it's mostly related to your particular lifestyle. He needs to settle down and have a normal life. Go to school, have friends... normal things. He needs stability."
Nate agreed, Nate liked the idea of a house, school and friends. He started fantasying of a big house in London, Jason had the biggest room and Nate got jealous all the time, Phoe's room had a lot of pink and Nate's room was the smallest, but it has the best view to the city. It wasn't until later that what the therapist said was explained to Nate, "We're not going to London, baby, you are," his mother had told him with tears in her eyes.
And so he went. He moved with Fergus and Sarah Mills, a middle-aged couple that lived in a middle class house in North London and were going to be his care family. The Mills had three grown-up kids that no longer lived with them and Nate moved into the room of the eldest, who already had a family of his own. Fergus was a lawyer who was barely ever home and worked most of the time he was; Sarah was a part-time secretary, who was going to spend most of her time home and look over Nate.
As much as he missed his mother and younger sister, Nate quickly realised the doctor had been right. It was hard at first to integrate in school and to start making friends, as well as it was hard to adapt to a new house and new parental figure, but after the first months, he felt better than ever. He had friends and as boring as school was, he loved the fact that he was actually attending it and then he could walk back home, go back to his room and play video games in the old Playstation 2.
Nate still suffered with his anxiety, but as time went by, he showed impressive progress and after less than a year, he stopped going to therapy, because it wasn't needed anymore. But things never stay good forever.
